Vancouver Snow Report

This is a blog-style web page for tracking snow conditions in and around Vancouver. Our brains are highly subjective, so this will be storage so that I can compare years in an unbiased manner by recording exactly what happened. Blog service will be around November 12 - April 1 each year or as conditions permit.

2026-02-02

I've run out of comments; it's still hot and it's still terrible.

2026-02-01

As we enter the fourth month of this site's existence, I am reminded the December and January have been totally blown. The run statuses on the local mountains remain where one would expect them to be in early December, except it's February 1. Last year at this time, the Glorious Winter arrived for a whole few days of snow and a nice week of cold afterwards, recovering the season. Sadly, we are not as lucky this year and it's only getting hotter.

2026-01-31

Still hot. No other comments.

2026-01-30

I discovered today that Texas, Florida, and Georgia, as well as Romania and Greece have MORE SNOW than Vancouver. This is horrible! Everywhere around the world is getting snow snow snow snow! EXCEPT VANCOUVER!?!?!?! WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO DESERVE THIS!? Absolutely nothing I say! When shall the weather gods smile upon this accursed coast??? When will we no longer have to subsidize the cold for everywhere else? When will other countries start subsidizing snow for Vancouver?

2026-01-29

It finally happened. Both of the big chairs at grouse are now closed. Well, that is the end of ski season.

2026-01-28

As it is hot and raining again, and as such there are no more comments, let us now reflect upon what southerly areas have passed Vancover in snowfall this season. The most egregious are the American states of Texas and Georgia, though perhaps worse was the south of Greece and the Arabian desert. HOW!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? HOW DOES THE DESERT IN A HOT COUNTRY GET MORE SNOW THAN VANCOUVER.

2026-01-27

It's a sad day, there isn't any snow, the people shuffle out, on to the bare ground. They walk through the mud and they look at the ground. It's going to be a bad night tonight, it's going to be a bad day tomorrow... No comments, but mercifully the clouds have returned

2026-01-26

The blessing of the approaching rain brings a curse: It's GOING BACK UP TO 13 DEGREES! What on earth!? How!? Flip flop, goes the weather: cold/inversion/dry or hot/wet. Where's our winter storm? What a disaster. Perhaps the mountains could see some snow tomorrow and wednesday, but afterwards I fear it will be far too hot. My religious friend says that this is God punishing us because "we're getting closert to hell" or something. What do you think? Oh wait, no comments. Nevermind. Anyway, I have no explanation for this third year in a row with record amounts of storms and snow for the blessed east, but nothing for the accursed west. In 10 days, it will be one year since there was last a snowfall in Vancouver. It is 16 days since there was last snowfall in the province. Surely this breaks a record somewhere. I'm hoping we can get the east-favouring polar vortex to reach its comforting tendrils down and bring snow to Vancouver once and for all. Still waiting for winter to start...

2026-01-25

Though temperatures are falling towards acceptable, it remains as dry as a desert. Can't we get some snow in Vancouver!?

2026-01-24

Still hot and still sunny.

2026-01-23

Ho ho ho ho ho. It's not even funny any more. Another snow for the east coast!? How unfair is that? Haven't they had at least 3 this year? How many have we had? ZERO! What insanity. We're going to run out of water this summer.

2026-01-22

What can I say? More of the same...

2026-01-21

Still hot, still terrible. Cut has been closed.

2026-01-20

Well... This entire month I have been counting down to January 26 because that is when Microsoft said there would be snow in the city fo Vancouver. Well, like every other snow prediction in Vancouver, it has dried up without a word. Now, it's going to start hot, continue to be hot, and finish up hot with not a single day of average temperatures to cancel it out. What a disaster.

2026-01-19

Oh, when on earth will it end!? Why is everybody else getting snow but us!? Hot hot hot hot. Hotter than hell. WHy can't all that high pressure and hot air go buzz off to Russia or the east coast and they can GET WHAT THEY DESERVE, so that Vancouver may bask in the glory of snow!?

2026-01-18

Still hot. Peak has begun to show large black spots. Somehow, expo is still open.

2026-01-17

A horrendous inversion: The City of Vancouver was an acceptable 3 degrees at 19:00 tonight, but the "Peak of Vancouver" at 1251 m remained at a staggering 12 degrees. Even at the colder (around 8 degrees) area down at the bottom of Olympic, the ramp was melting so fast that it needed up to 250,000 cm^3 of snow per hour. There were many instances of bare rocks, twigs, and grass in the middle of the runs. Observe:

2026-01-16

Hot and terrible

2026-01-15

Halfway through the month and what a roller coaster it has been: It looked like things were going very well and on track to have a nice average/OK season for once, but No! Sub Tropical Storm Alphonso or whatever has to come through and ruin everything by making it 10 degrees above seasonal! What a violation of the adage that there is one bad part per season. If that were true, we would definitely have had our bad part in December, with smooth sailing for the rest of the season. What on earth! How does this happen!? Even 2021-2022 had a good start (bad finish). This season is having a bad middle after a bad start. F*** global warming. Why can't it go pick on Ontario for a change?

2026-01-14

To quote a guy on the internet - "Ski season is wrecked". That is all I have to say. What a disaster.

2026-01-13

The rain has stopped but the temperatures continue to climb. It seems this year to an exceptional rate all weather forecasts have gone wrong. Remember when there was supposed to be snow in November? Then December? 2 weeks ago, I saw that "Mid January will start with cold, clear weather". I can see the clear part (for the next week), but WHERE IS THE COLD?? 11 degrees (7 degrees above expected high) is not cold. It is as if the nasty sub tropical storm Alphoso or whatever has gotten its horrible little foot in the door and refuses to leave.

2026-01-12

Horribly hot temperatures continue with heavy rain.

2026-01-11

Same as yesterday

2026-01-10

It is becoming dangerously hot. It was raining at lower elevations on grouse mountain.

2026-01-09

Conditions remain good, but there is a very dangerous forecast: Temperatures back up into 10, 11, 12 degrees!?!?!?!? What!? I hope this is an exaggeration. For an average to work out, we will need to have not a day above zero for the rest of the winter. This is what would happen if karmic justice were real. It isn't, so it's not. Microsoft predicts snow for Vancouver January 25, 26, and 27. I can't tell if this is an actual forecast of if it is just copying last year's forecast (In which there was snow February 2, 3, and 4).

2026-01-08

Excellent conditions today. FVS was at about 500m (First Visible Snow), and tree snow was visible by around 600m, which is really quite excellent.

2026-01-07

Generally, I would say that today has been a good day for snowfall. However, I am infuriated because the one thing I love most has been dangled in front of my nose. There was SNOW EVERYWHERE IN VANCOUVER! EVERYWHERE IN THE HEMISPHERE, COUNTRY, PROVINCE, AND CITY ----- EXCEPT FOR MY NEIGHBOURHOOD!!!!! If there was a God, I would say that he personally hates me. I will console myself by counting down the days until I can return to the snow. If I ever become rich (which is not going to happen), I am going to build myself a house upon the snowiest peak in BC and then I shall be happy. However, it is important to note that despite this very unfortunate situation, this is good for everywhere else. So, if you are in Vancouver, I IMPLORE you to enjoy your meager helping of snow. If you live in a place that gets lots of snow, I also implore you to enjoy it and remember that there are those like me who would do pretty much anything to get to have all the snow that you have.

2026-01-06

#$^@. A bunch of liars they are all. Michael Kuss is now on the Bad List. What a professional liar, hamming it up to cause alarm and then of course nothing happens. That's the last time I have a positive attitude about anything. This has happened many times before and it has happened again now. However, this time is worse. The government has lied to me! They are also being overly alarmist, just like when they declare every country in the world to have a HIGH level of terrorism warning. STOP SCHEDULING SNOW WHEN THERE ISN'T GOING TO BE ANY. As always, I note that Vancouver has the most boring weather in the entire world. And, as always, nobody cares. If Parliament was in Vancouver then there would be a bit more environmental action methinks.

2026-01-05

There may be a reversal of fortunes coming. The goernment has declared that there will be snow in high areas asuch as upper Burnaby, North Vancouver, and West Vancouver. That's rich. Let's see how truthful they are.j Let's try having a positive attitude for once, eh?

2026-01-04

Still hot and still raining.

2026-01-03

Weather remains hot and bad.

2026-01-02

Hot weather continues. Expo has a huge hole in the middle; it rained for most of the afternoon; and there is not enough snow to drill holes for queue pylons. Happy New Year from Global Warming

2026-01-01

A very happy new year with SAD weather! The inversion continues for its third day.

2025-12-31

It remains very hot. The second straight day of inversion conditions, where the temperature at 1000m ASL is higher than at sea level. What a travesty. Again the chairlift ramp required frequent shovelling. So much snow had melted from the ground level that there was a major hill to climb up to the loading ramp of the chairlift.

2025-12-30

Today was a horribly hot day. It was 7 degrees. I have likely suffered radiation damage to myself from how sunny it was. The chairlift ramp required shovelling every 15 minutes with fresh show because it was melting so quickly. I hate global warming more than ever.

2025-12-29

Alas Alack! Our streak of good luck has run out. Temperatures are soaring back up to nasty highs of 10+ degrees for the next WEEK!!! What have we done to deserve this? (Oh yeah, I know). As I have said already, Vancouver is completely being affected unfairly by global warming. We have not polluted nearly as much as our neighbours in Alberta, China, and USA, but yet we are stuck with the consequences. All this while the east gets more snow than ever. One day they shall get what they deserve and snow shall be returned to its rightful place in the west - AT ALL ELEVATIONS! I am aware that sounds like a cult. This is correct, as that is never going to happen. At best, the east will also lose winter and then there will be no snow for anybody, which is even worse than the current situation. This is an enormous travesty.

2025-12-28

Temperatures remain good, no other comment.

2025-12-27

Nice and cold at all elevations. As I was coming home from work there was about 1 mm of snow at 300m AMSL. I believe that if the precipitation issuing cloud had not been hugging so tightly to the mountains, there would have been snow for the city. There is still the possibility of a smattering overnight. If I see some at my house, I will have to reset my snow counter, which is a GOOD thing. Right now, it's sitting at 326 days.

2025-12-26

Temperatures remain acceptable; no comments for today.

2025-12-25

It has been over one month since I created this website. In this time I have seen the horrible state of conditions, the endless heat wave and at least a brief return to normalcy as we have seen over the last few days.

2025-12-24

A very nice Christmas Eve considering the past month. THough temperatures remain near average in Vancouver, and thus no snow, it's nice and cold on the mountains. More run openings will likely come soon.

2025-12-23

There are no comments for today, but I would like to take a moment to commemorate the greatest number of failed gradiose predictions for any winter I can remember. There was supposed to be snow in November/Early December according to the North Shore News and the Old Farmers Almanac (a whole bunch of dirty scammers). There was then supposed to be snow around Christmas. Though temperatures have cooled down to average, average is still not enough for snow in Vancouver. I restate thatfor an average to work, 50% of days should be above and 50% should be below. I have yet to see a single below day, though on the average is still better than above average. If karmic justice were real, then it would snow in Vancouver all month in January or something interesting like that would happen, but of course it won't, because karmic justice is of course not real.

2025-12-22

No comments for today

2025-12-21

Temperatures remain nominal. heaven's Sake and Peak opened on Grouse. Though the snow is quite thick and heavy, it is continuing to fall, so is far far better than what there was one week ago.

2025-12-20

Temperatures remain nominal; no dirt is visible on paradise, though it is too foggy to evaluate the status of the peak

2025-12-19

Another great day with average temperatures. Just as I forgot what it was like to ride on a detachable chairlift after no such lifts were open for months, I forgot about what it was like to have average winter temperatures in Vancouver. Even though there was only some occasional hail for the city, there was lots of snow for the mountains today, and Grouse finally opened! The latest start ever on DECEMBER 19!!!

2025-12-18

Praise be to The Arctic today, for it is snowing upon the mountains!!! Hopefully, they will be open very soon. Most unfortunately however, due to global warming, there is zero snow in the city of Vancouver today. Temperatures remain slightly above average, but mercifully not so much so to ruin the season. There are 35 new centimetres on grouse today. I would still like the farmer's almanac to eat their words, as

I will be complaining to them by email for getting my hopes up for the third year in a row. I need to keep deluding myself into thinking that there Will Be Snow In The City Of Vancouver This Year.

2025-12-17

Early today, this website went down due to a power outage. However, there is finally some nice fresh snow on the local mountains. It appears to be a few centimetres. Good. Very good. Unfortunately, now I can turn my attention to the forecast: It is clear that the weather is taunting Vancouver by being very close to snow in the city, but not actually having any. This is also due to global warming. If not for global warming, then there would most likely have been predictions for snow in Vancouver in the coming weeks. I hope I will have to eat my words, but I do not see how there can be snow at a temperature of +3 degrees. Remember that Vancouver is already suffering a permanent +4 degree anomaly due to global warming

2025-12-16

At long last some "cold" (average temperature) weather is coming to Vancouver. There is some wet snow visible on the runs of grouse today. North Vancouver and Howe Sound was placed under flood warning as the remainder of snow that exist was totally ruined.

2025-12-15

This is the second of the two days of atmospheric river which is totally destroying what miniscule amounts of snow remain on the mountains. Temperatures reached 8 degrees on Grouse, which is also closed due to high winds and heavy rain.

2025-12-14

Today, a three-day atmospheric river entered Vancouver. It will be 12 degrees for some period. However, I will adopt a rare positive attitude as the forecase appears to improve significantly over the days. Maybe ski season will start before Christmas after all. The freezing level remains at 3 km according to somewhere I forgot. I do not know how Grouse keeps their skating rink open, but I suspect it is actually sitting on a refrigerator array as there is no way it could stay frozen for weeks and weeks above freezing.

2025-12-13

As we now near the halfway point of this month, the mountains remain almost as bare as they were on November 24 when this website started. That is entirely horrid.

2025-12-12

Temperature remain high. Nothing of note yet again. There is no snow, not even a little bit at any elevation below 1500m.

2025-12-11

There is nothing of note to report today. Temperatures remained too high. No new snow fell. Rather, the melting snow (what little did exist) is now causing flooding around the Fraser Valley. Fantastic. The near weather forecast predicts precipitation (good) but EXTREME temperatures of 12 degrees (very bad). What have we done to deserve this!?!? Oh yeah... I remember... You know who you are, those who have caused this...

2025-12-10

As a result of an atmospheric river, what meager snowpack existed on our peaks has been reduced to nothing. Where there was the gravelly field with the occasional patch of snow there is now a soggy, damp, gravelly field with not one flake. All this meanwhile people in the interior and on the east coast show off their 20+ cm of snow. One day, they too will have cancelled winters, and they will be sorry that they complained all these years while we had nothing.

2025-12-09

Our brothers and sisters in Europe are also experiencing an extreme positive temperature anomaly. One guy said, "It's 15 C in the Netherlands." That is horrendous. It is 11 degrees, which is also terrible, in Vancouver today. Guess who is getting all of the snow? The east coast people. They should be relishing and enjoyin gthe snow while they have it, but they instead choose to whine and complain. They should be more grateful. It is 6 degrees on our mountains today, and where there was once a white snowy field with bushes sticking up, there is now a bare grass field with the occasional patch of snow. Temperatures are scheduled to remain high for the rest of the week, contiuning are seemingly interminable streak of uncanadian weather.

2025-12-08

I found a chart today that confirms my suspicions that somehow this "winter" is extra bad. All of the east coast was a beautiful purple negative temperature anomaly, but all the way up the pacific, from California, to Yukon Territory was a bright red. How horrendous is that!?!? Why can't we have a negative temperature anomaly for once?? This is extremely worrisome, and it surely cannot continue. I am having a great deal of trouble trusting the experts who say Vancouver is due for a cold and wet winter overall (especially in December) when it has been so hot and (relatively) dry. It is 3 degrees again and pouring rain, washing away what little snow we have left.

2025-12-07

The weather forecast remains grim: Some suggest lots of snow for high elevations, but this "high elevation" is rapidly leaving 1500 m (1000m is minimum needed for any skiing progress). It is 3 degrees and raining on the local mountains, which should be the weather in the city. Look at what the evils of global warming have done to us: What should be our weather at 0m is now the weather at 1000+ m. What a disaster.

2025-12-06

Today I went up Grouse Mountain to check out how bad things really are. Let's just say they aren't quite ready for skiing. They most likely have some kind of refrigerator array set up on The Cut which they say has been producing snow since September. However, even this is not enough to offset Global Warming. Perhaps, Paradise is skiable... if you are an expert that can dodge the holes and ditches. While I was there, there was a small amount of snowfall that promptly switched to rain, then stopped. All this while I look on the internet and see "CANADA TO EXPERIENCE CRAZY COLD WINTER" - This is MORE EASTERN BIAS. Whenever the global audience says "Canada", they mean the East coast only. Nobody cares about the south coast, even though we are definitely the most affected by global warming (maybe with the exception of the arctic). For the second year in a row, while Eastern Canada experiences all the cold and snow they could dream of and more, we in Vancouver are left looking at month after month of "above average temperatures" and a distinct lack of Canadian-ness in weather.

2025-12-05

Byebye snow already. Somehow, despite high-elevation forecasts showing a maximum temperature of zero degrees, the temperature reached one degree and promptly started raining. All of the hard progress this last week is now going in the bin before our very eyes. It is more unlikely than ever that skiing will open three weeks behind schedule.

2025-12-04

Temperatures remained near average in the city today. There are 3 new centimetres of snow on the local mountains. Nothing of note occured today.

2025-12-03

Finally, we are beginning to get somewhere. There are 2 new centimetres of snow on the local mountains. Temperatures remained negative for the entire day. There is a worrying warming trend over the next few days, back up to 10 degrees. Remember what I said about averages: Half the days above, half the days below... So far there has been only one or two days below average temperature, and we have yet to truly go to minus one degrees. Hopefully the forecast is wrong.

2025-12-02

As always, our brief period of luck has expired. It is +3 on the mountains. Grouse reports a snow base of 20 cm, just barely beating out Alabama for snowfall. Excellent (sarcastic). As I stare out of the classroom window at the green trees on December 2nd, I am reminded that in Vancouver, we only have 3 seasons now. Isn't is supposed to be a La Nina this year? Isn't it supposed to be cold and wet? It is neither. It is hot and dry.

2025-12-01

December is starting off well. We have RMS (recently melted snow, a type of rainfall that is 90% rain and 10% snow) falling at +200m in the city, and heavy snow on the mountains. Hopefully this continues so that ski season can get started!

2025-11-30

It was a good day in the city today. There was actual ice around. Except... It's dry as a desert, so no snow for anybody. A radio announcer said "OMG THERZ GONNA B3 SNO TOMORROW", but I fail to see how snow can fall at +4 degrees. On a more positive note, the mountain predicts a high of 1 degree tomorrow which is conducive to snowfall. Maybe we will get some tomorrow and beat florida in snowfall yet.

2025-11-29

The mountain/city temperature difference seems to have broken down. Temperatures in the city have returned to near seasonal (~6 degrees), but the mountain was 4 degrees. + 4 degrees! According to a mountaineering book I have, "The north shore mountains are usually 5-10 degrees COLDER than the city." 2 degrees is NOT 5, nor is it 10. Yikes. No snow, as always... Now we are heading into a dry patch that is not cold enough for freezing temperatures on the peaks. What a disaster. Merry Christmas from Global Warming I guess.

2025-11-28

It has come to my attention that many leaves are still green on the trees, on NOVEMBER 28. Additionally, some trees are already sprouting like it's April. This is an extreme travesty. We literally have 3 seasons now, spring, summer, and fall. Every year the beginning of spring gets moved up a month. Can it get any worse??? At the very least, temperatures were (average) at 3 degrees low last night in the city. Maybe the mountains will be able to make some artificial snow now.

Today, grouse finally switched to winter mode, though everything shows CLOSED CLOSED CLOSED. It's +4 degrees up there. It seems to me that the weather at 1000m above sea level is the pre-climate change weather in Vancouver. Isn't that disastrous.

2025-11-27

In a manner similar to Vancouver during pre-global-warming winters, the snow has immediately gone to crap, what little exists on our local mountains. Temperatures are back above average in the city as November draws to a close in a few days. I read an article in the north shore news (this article) that says we will have a nice and cold December and January. I sincerely hope that this is true, but it is likely overblown headlines for shock effect. Weather predictors have done this before where they make some grand "doom" prediction about snowpocalypse or whatever that makes people like me very excited. Then, everything disappears and nothing happens.

2025-11-26

Of course more than a two day streak of under zero temperatures on our mountains is not permitted. Though there was an additional 3cm according to Grouse, it is all turning to rubbish. Grouse mountain started their snow tracking today. Four more days left in November. Of course, temperatures are going back up to 9 degrees in the city over the coming days. Ridiculous.

2025-11-25

Despite a recent fall to merely average temperature levels in the city of Vancouver, the snowpack continues to grow from a base of zero on November 23. So far we are just above the level that Florida received last year. Grouse has not yet started their snoow counter, but Cypress reports 11 cm for a base of 15 cm at all elevations. Visible freezing line was ~700m for much of the day.

2025-11-24

Finally, winter has started upon the local mountains. The hot streak seems to have ended as temperatures are directly upon the average high of 7 degrees in the city of Vancouver. The point of an average is that half of the days are above the 7 degrees and the other half are below it. This has been total rubbish this month as it seems as if almost every day this month has been above 7 degrees. All of this is of course thanks to our good friend Global Warming. The counters on the local mountains are above zero for the first time up to 4 cm.

2025-11-23

This is the gravest winter in recent memory, though I have been counting only since 2020. Somebody made a post on Reddit today saying they hiked the 1400m summit of Pump Peak and it was completely dry. This is a travesty. As always, the west coast is paying the price for the pollution of humanity. Merry Christmas from global warming.
